LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Interfaith Paths to Peace is remembering military members as well.

This year there was an emphasis on engaging compassion. The event was held at Westwood Presbyterian Church on Greenwood Avenue in Louisville.

Nine-year-old Erica Hughes spoke at the event. She is a gunshot survivor. Erica was shot multiple times in 2006 in her home; her mother was killed.

Erica now lives with her grandparents. She's shy and sometimes quiet.

She's kept her message the same through the years. A message she continues to share today.

Interfaith Paths to Peace works to make the community the nation and the world more peaceful by bringing people of different religions together through programs and events that promote inter-religious understanding.
