FLAHERTY, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The identity has been released of a woman killed in an accident involving an ambulance in Meade County Thursday.

Police said 27-year-old Sarah S. Hottell of Brandenburg was killed when she failed to stop at an intersection and was struck by an ambulance.

The accident happened around 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of KY 333 and Ky 313. Hottell was traveling eastbound on KY 333, police said, and did not stop when she approached the intersection at KY 313. A Meade County ambulance with two EMTs aboard was heading south on KY 313 when Hottell came through the intersection.

Police said the driver, 49-year-old Todd Flory of Vine Grove, swerved and tried to avoid hitting Hottell's 2008 Pontiac, but was unable to do so. The ambulance struck the driver's side of the Pontiac, causing it to leave the roadway and overturn, ejecting the Flory and the other EMT, Michael Wise, 48, from Payneville.

Hottell's vehicle also left the roadway and landed in a ditch. Hottell was pronounced dead at the scene, but a 10-month-old in the car with her survived the accident. The infant was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

According to a news release, a black Volkswagen traveling north on KY 313 was also involved in the collision. Police said it is not clear if the Volkswagen was struck by the Pontiac or the ambulance, but further investigation will determine exactly what happened.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 47-year-old Maria P. Williams of Brandenburg, did suffer minor injuries - she was treated at Hardin Memorial Hospital and was later released.

Flory and Wise, the EMTs, were taken to University of Louisville Hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.
