LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A new historical marker was unveiled on Thursday afternoon honoring Kentucky's 48th Governor Lawrence Wetherby.

Wetherby was a native of Middletown where the new marker now stands on Shelbyville Road outside Middletown City Hall.

He is the only Kentucky governor born in Jefferson County.

He helped lay the foundation for Kentucky's interstate system, increased the number of airports and directed the construction of the state fairgrounds.
