(WHAS11) -- In order to compete with the growing suburb shopping malls, in 1979 city leaders came up with the idea to enclose one block of 4th Street downtown in glass, and call it the Louisville Galleria.

In Friday Flashbacks we came across the day Mayor Bill Stansbury signed the deal to create it.

In this report from WHAS11's Chuck Olmstead, notice how the street looks without the glass enclosure and you'll see the original Louisville clock, sitting in its first location on 4th.
