Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11)--There's a new leader at the McMahan Fire Department to replace former Chief Paul Barth.

Thursday night at a fire board meeting Joe Johnson was sworn in as the interim chief.

The board is currently sorting out its finances and there's an ongoing criminal investigation against Barth who has been accused of mismanaging funds and taking money meant for the WHAS Crusade for Children.

Johnson said he realizes it will take some time to sort it all out.

"It's going to be a challenge we've already started doing that and actually surprised where we're at, we are in better shape than we think we are.  It's still going to be a challenge but we'll get there though," Johnson said.

Johnson had been serving as acting chief since Barth was suspended.
