LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A fiery accident sent three people to the hospital Tuesday night after a car struck a semi at Outer Loop and Jefferson Boulevard.

The accident involved a car and a Papa John's semi.

The car struck the semi's gas tank, which exploded, fully engulfing the semi in flames.

Officials said the semi driver appeared to be OK, but it's passenger and two people in the car were transported to University Hospital.

The heat from the fire damaged the road.

The gas leaked into the sewer, which officials said must be cleaned.
