(WHAS11) -- Northbound lanes of I-65 will be shut down the entire weekend starting at 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers are calling this a "Friday the 13th traffic mess."
"I think you're going to have a traffic nightmare on your hands with as much commerce that comes across I-65 and the bridge," said driver Jim Bruenderman.
Crews will pave between the Watterson Expressway and Chestnut Street exit near the Hospital curve.
Exit ramps from East and West I-64 to South I-65, plus South I-71 to North I-65 to Jeffersonville will be off limits starting Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. That work is expected to last a couple weeks.
On the Kennedy Bridge, lanes are restricted to one northbound and two southbound until sometime next week. Steel beams under the Indiana approach were corroded and INDOT will replace a two foot section and add steel plates to other spots.
All of this traffic is also taking place during the Forecastle Festival.
Transportation experts say there is no quick way around. They urge drivers to look for detours and be patient.
Experts say to travel with a full tank of gas and a fully charged cell phone so you are not stuck on the side of the road.
