(WHAS11) -- Americans will spend billions of dollars to get ready for the Super Bowl.  Here are some helpful tips if you are looking to save some cash on your Super Bowl bash.

According to an annual survey by the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association, Americans will spend nearly $12.3 billion on the Super Bowl, which is an average of $68.54 per person. Three quarters of that cash will be spent on snacks and beverages.

According to an analysis by finance website Nerd Wallet, one party staple will really take a bite out of your wallet.

"It looks like the biggest hit to your budget really will be coming from chicken wings, actually.  They're going to be up about 15-20 percent in terms of prices from last year's Super Bowl..." Nerd Wallet said.

More than 7.5 million households are expected to buy a new TV before the big game, compared with 5.1 million last year. Those who are looking for a deal may be in luck.

"You're actually going to find pretty good prices for those big HDTVs, which is a little counter intuitive because demand is up, but there are a couple of other factors driving that as well," Nerd Wallet said.

Those factors include a combination of typically lean January sales and stores clearing shelves for new models.
