(WHAS11) -- Are you tired of decorating your home, your yard and your Christmas tree the same way year after year? Why not make this year the year your decorations are the envy of the neighborhood?

"A lot of times there are holiday decorators you can come in not to do the decorating, but to actually consult with you. You pay them to have them there for an hour. It's not as expensive, but a great way to get a fresh eye," Angie Hicks from Angie’s List said.

Although we all have different budgets for decorating, our intentions are the same. We want to put ourselves and our families in the holiday spirit with reminders that say "tis the season."

"Finances are something we are always aware of, but we love our home and we love to entertain and we want it to look nice and be warm and friendly and welcoming," homeowner Amy Sailing said.

Sailing is the kind of homeowner who spares no expense hiring help for her holiday decorations. That help comes in the form of companies who specialize in lights, to consultants to designers who start with a vision and then hire help to get the job done. But interior designer Karen Mercer says you don't have to spend a fortune.

"I do think people can utilize a lot of different places: consignment stores, thrift shops, low cost decorating - you just have to think outside the box sometimes," Mercer said.

Angie’s List says if you do hire a company to hang the lights make sure you pay them in two steps. First at the installation, and then at the removal. If you pay it all up front your lights may be up there until the fourth of July.
