(WHAS11) -- A school in Indianapolis has a motto that has some people asking questions.

Just inside the doors at Charles Tindley Accelerated School, written in huge letters on the wall are the words, "College or Die."

Although, the phrase may seem harsh, school administrators say it's all about motivation. The school's chancellor says most of the kids live at or below the poverty line, and he says higher education is the difference between opportunity and oppression.

"Every kid who walks through the door, we make a promise: We're going to find a way to get you to a selective college or university," said Chancellor Marcus Robinson.

As part of tradition, every college acceptance letter received gets posted on the wall.
