(WHAS11) - Simply incredible! The 2010 Crusade For Children raised $5,301,182 . To see a community come together in such hard times and raise so much money, for such a cause, just blows my mind away. Last year I experienced my first Crusade and although it was rewarding to be a part of something bigger, this year I knew I wanted to do more.
On Saturday night, I teamed up with our weekend crew and we each did a trick on live television. Ben Pine bounced a golf ball, Claudia Coffey tap danced in high-heels and I went back to my gymnastics roots and walked on my hands. Reed Yadon donated $100 for each trick (a total of $300 – thanks Reed!) And although we had fun, and raised some money, I had to do more..
I set out to answer the phones during our live coverage on Sunday. As soon as I took a few phone calls, I was hooked. My original goal was to raise $1,000. I joked around telling the viewers I would not leave and there would not be sports tonight if I did not reach my goal. After taking a $500 generous donation, Monty Webb challenged me to $1,200. Once I reached that goal, I just couldn’t stop.
In two hours I took down a total of $2,505.50. Every phone call I took just made my heart smile. As tonight comes to an end, I know the money we raised will go a long way to help many many children.
I wanted to thank everyone I spoke to and everyone who volunteered their time or donated whatever they could because the 57th annual Crusade For Children was a huge success!
