LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- New changes are happening in the retail world in Louisville. The new Cinemark Theater is set to open on May 16 at Mall St. Matthews. The new theater boasts 10 screens and 43,000 square feet.

The opening will happen less than one year after construction started.

“We anticipate parking lots being filled that aren’t typically filled unless it’s a holiday,” Mall St. Matthews General Manager David Jacoby said.

The new movie theater created 70 jobs. Oxmoor Center is currently undergoing a new multimillion dollar renovation. The Food Court is now gone and the second floor is being consolidated.

“Rather than two levels there is now one. Rather than people having to go upstairs everything is on one level,” General Manager of the Oxmoor Center Jacob Sappenfield said.

There will also be a new play structure.

Shoppers said they are looking forward to the new changes.

“ It will definitely attract more people with the new stores,” Katie Smith said.

Shoppers at Oxmoor are also excited about the new retail opportunities that may pop up. Several people specifically mentioned H&M.

“We’re always in the process of talking to new retailers to bring them. At this point there’s nothing official to release,” Sappenfield said.

Construction at Oxmoor is expected to finish sometime in the summer of 2013.
