GASTON COUNTY, NC. -- A North Carolina bus driver is charged with having sex with two students she drove to school every day, and now those students are charged, too.
Police said one night last October 33-year-old Kwanda Carpenter picked two 17-year-old boys up in her personal car, drove to a dead end street and had sexual contact with them. After that, police said Carpenter began receiving Facebook messages from the boys asking her for $60 in exchange for their silence.
Police said the money was to ensure the boys would not report her to police and tell officers she raped them. Carpenter then went to a school resource officer to report the blackmail.
"I have been in law enforcement since 1995 and I’ve investigated numerous sex offenses, this is the first time I have ever had the alleged victims try to extort the alleged suspect," Sgt. Josh Hamlin of th e Gaston Co., North Carolina police department said.
Carpenter said the students are lying, but police said they found evidence that sex actually occurred and they also found evidence of blackmail.
Carpenter now faces a felony sex offense charge and the two students have been charged with blackmail.
