LOUISIVLLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—Operation Cookie is in full swing, helping troops, while keeping the calories off.

Girl Scouts sell the favorites, but a box can be full of calories, so why not help out those deployed troops and let them have a little sweetness?

Monday morning Republic Bank and the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana kicked off the annual Operation Cookie program.

People go and buy a box of cookies, but instead of taking them home, it will be sent overseas to troops.

This is the programs seventh year and Republic Bank bought the first 2,000 boxes for troops, while challenging other companies to do the same.

Last year more than 12,000 boxes were sent to troops.
