(WHAS11)--An injury accident on Interstate 64 cause a traffic back up for miles Thursday morning.

The westbound lanes of I-64 were shut down near English Station Road and the Gene Snyder Freeway.  Traffic was diverted off of the Simpsonville exit in an effort to relieve the back up that nearly reached the Shelby County line.

Police have not released any details about the accident, nor have they commented on the extent of any injuries.
