LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A 31-year-old man is in critical condition at University Hospital three days after he was injured in a hit and run accident on I-64.
Police said Chad McQuilling got out of his truck to fill up the gas tank when he was blindsided by another driver.
McQuilling's mom, Cheryl, said he was driving his girlfriend and her daughter in a in a truck he had restored himself Thursday night when the truck ran out of gas. She said the gas gauge was not working correctly, but Chad carried gas with him in case he ran out.
Cheryl McQuilling said her son suffered a shattered pelvic bone, has organ failure and bleeding around his brain because of the accident. He is currently in a medically induced coma.
Chad celebrated his 31st birthday 11 days before the accident his mom said she is praying for his survival.
Police believe the driver of a newer model gray Kia Sorento hit Chad McQuilling causing minor damage to the right side of the car. Police said the vehicle is missing the passenger side mirror as well.
