JOURDANTON -- A 9-year-old girl is now in Child Protective Services custody after authorities in Jourdanton said her mother, 31-year-old Patricia Woodrow, intentionally abandoned her on Wednesday morning in front of a hospital.
Jourdanton Police Chief Eric Kaiser tells KENS 5 his officers received a call at 7:15 a.m. from the South Texas Regional Medical Center.
The girl told police her mother handed over her social security card and told her the hospital would take care of her from now on. Chief Kaiser said they took in the 9-year-old and called CPS.
Police were able to track down the mother. Woodrow, who had a driver's license from Alabama, was staying at a local trailer home park.
Police said the woman resisted arrest and in the process assaulted an officer.
Woodrow is now facing serious charges including abandoning a child without intent to return, resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.
Police said the girl didn't appear to have sustained any physical abuse.
This is a developing story, KENS 5's Mayra Moreno is working on further details.
