From UofL press release (July 14, 2006):
LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The BIG EAST Conference schedule for the University of Louisville’s second season in the 18-team league will include a pair of games against Connecticut, Marquette and USF among its challenging 16-game schedule
Louisville’s home conference opponents will include Connecticut, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, USF and Syracuse. The Cardinals’ eight league away games will be at Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, USF and Villanova. U of L will not face BIG EAST Conference members Rutgers or West Virginia during the 2006-07 season. The Cardinals did not play Georgetown or Seton Hall in their initial BIG EAST campaign last season.
“Obviously, our BIG EAST Conference schedule is always going to be extremely competitive,” said Rick Pitino. “Weve also beefed up our non-conference schedule this year and I think we will be up fo the task. We look for to an exciting season.”
Six BIG EAST Conference teams are among ESPN.com’s June Top 25 preseason ranking, including two of the three teams U of L will face twice this season: Connecticut (No. 15) and Marquette (20th). Pittsburgh (4th), Georgetown (6th), Villanova (23 rd) and Louisville (24th) are also listed among the web site’s top 25 teams. Eleven of the Cardinals’ 16 conference games will be against teams that reached either the NCAA Tournament or NIT last season.
U of L’s non-conference schedule is incomplete, but will include such teams as Arizona, Miami (Fla.), Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Dayton among others. A complete schedule, including dates and times for BIG EAST games, is expected in early September.
