Pre-Register for Heating Assistance Program: CAP to accept early registrations beginning Monday

LOUISVILLE, KY (October 3, 2008) – Home heating costs are expected to rise significantly this winter, so the Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (CAP) will begin accepting pre-registration heating assistance applications beginning on Monday, Oct. 6. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to help citizens pay utility bills.
CAP will accept applications at Metro Parks community centers throughout Louisville Metro from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. weekdays through October 24. Last year, LIHEAP assisted 9050 Louisville residents totaling $856,121 in utility financial assistance.
Pre-registration is only for residents that are disabled or elderly receiving social security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits.
Residents who don’t meet these requirements for pre-registration may still apply for LIHEAP benefits. They may obtain an appointment to apply for LIHEAP beginning October 29 through November 1 at any CAP location.
Applicants must present the following:
1) Most recent heating bill or verification that heating expenses are included in rent (i.e. lease agreements)
2) Social Security card(s) or official documentation with social security numbers for each member of the household;
3) Proof of all household income for the prior month
4) Picture ID

Southwick Community Center, 3621 Southern Ave. - Tuesday, Oct. 14
Portland Community Center, 640 N. 27th St. - Wednesday, Oct. 15
South Louisville Community Center, 2911 Taylor Blvd. - Thursday, Oct. 16
Allgeier Community Center, 4101 Cadillac Ct. - Friday, Oct. 17

Applicants will be notified via mail regarding the status of their application. Funds for this program will not be disbursed until after November 3, 2008.
