i didnt want to believe what some of my coworkers were telling me because i never got a chance to see the lolipop video to the end. i've always love Static from the first momment they stepped into the music buisness. i'm hurt by the news of his passing so i can not begin to imagine what his family is going through. my heart goes out to his children.

My god I am so sorry about what happened to him. I wasnt sure if it was the same static from playa. I don't know why so many people in hip hop are passing away, but it is so sad. My condolensces to his family.

my heart goes out to his family and close friends

I have known of Static ever since before the group Playa when he along with Missy,Ginuwine,Playa & Timbaland were calling themselves "Tha Bassment" in the early '90s. He was definitely a great talent that was underrated & will be greatly missed.

I hadn't ever heard of Static until Lil wayne's video. I thought he was so cute. I didnt believe that he was dead because I had just seen him in the video. I've asked everybody about it and decided to look it up. Unfortunately it was true. My heart goes out to his friends and family.

R.I.P STEPHEN "MAJOR STATIC GARRET"

I remember Stephen back in school at Waggener. He was so cute and short. I would always joke around with him. I remember seing him with his little girlfriend at the time name Denise Patterson, they made the cutest couple. He was doing alot with music even back than. He was determine to be successful. I know he is in a better place but I will miss you RIP Stephen, my heart goes out to all his friends and family.

I really did know Static Major untill he and lil wayne made the song "lolipo" because i am young, but when i heard it i fell in love with his voice and at the end of the video i had noticed it said R.I.P Static and i was shocked that he died! Even though he is gone i will continue to listen to his music and pass it on through generations and learn more about him! R.I.P Stephen "Static Major" Garret

I've never posted a comment before, but when I was watchin lil'wayne new video and seen RIP Static at the end of his video i was so shocked.i Immediately went on my laptop and had to make sure if that was really him, and I was completey devasted when I read the articles about his death. I've been a fan of his since the group playa, I always had a major crush on him since I was 13 I'm 23 now so that's a pretty long time. I was anticipated hearing his voice on another song and seeing his handsome face on another video. He was definately a talented young black man and it's really upseting to know that he will no longer be with us anymore. That's why I try to live everyday just like my last and always spend as much time as I can with my love ones because you never know when your or there time is up. RIP Static.
Luv always, you biggest fan Tee

Stephen Garrett was one of the Greatest writers of our time and people need to know about him. I expected the media to cover his story, because his story is a geat one and his death should be recognized. Not just on BET but on the ten O'clock news as well. WE LOVE YOU STACTIC REST IN PEACE.

Stephen was one cool as cat. He will be missed and his legacy will live on. A very truly underrated prodigy from the 502. Peace be with you brother - Rod Mack

I went to college with his cousin TB at Nevada. In 1997 he would always talk about static and the group playa. Always on the phone with stephen and just hearing them laugh together and staying focused on their business... TB probably have the coldest jumper I ever seen at Nevada and I played football. He would talk about how the Kentucky Derby and how much fun it was and i'm from cali and i would never think that was the spot. My point being is that family is everything and they talked constently keeping each others spirits up even being that far away and how TB would talk about how passionate Stephen was about life and I never met Stephen. My condolences goes to Garrett family and if TB gets this hit me up 323.578.8057 NT
