Louisville’s mayor is going to meet with president-elect Barack Obama on Thursday to discuss Obama’s job creation plan.

Mayor Jerry Abramson hopes the Obama stimulus plan will bring some big bucks to Louisville.

The mayor will fly out Wednesday afternoon for a briefing Wednesday night with a dozen other mayors.

Last month, Abramson was among the mayors who met with the Obama transition team to encourage massive job creation by spending massive money in major cities and metropolitan areas.

“We discussed issues from importance of realizing that metropolitan areas are truly economic engines of this country,” says Mayor Abramson.

The mayor’s office has revealed the Louisville wish list. It includes more than 18,000 jobs that could be created by investing up to $600 million in safer roads and bridges, more energy-efficient buildings and vehicles, cleaner drinking water, modern sewers and flood protection systems, and better classrooms.

Abramson acknowledged that he doesn’t expect all of those projects to receive funding.  The congressional budget office announced today that the federal deficit this year would reach $1.2 trillion.  Any stimulus plan would make that even bigger.
