INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (AP) -- Police say a northern Kentucky woman who was fatally shot by her father in a double-murder-suicide was pregnant.
Family members told police Jessica Padilla, 22, was five-months pregnant, Independence Police Lt. Col. David Nichols said Friday.
Police say Seaward Padilla shot his wife, Lori Padilla, and his daughter before setting his home on fire and then shooting himself. Seaward Padilla also fired at emergency responders who arrived at the home after a 911 call, Nichols said.
Jessica Padilla's 2-year-old daughter, Jaycee, was found in the front yard unharmed.
Nichols said it was not known if the shootings were connected to Jessica Padilla's pregnancy. He said police have not been able to establish why the shootings occurred.
Funeral services for Lori and Jessica Padilla will be Monday at Chambers and Grubbs funeral home in Independence. The funeral home had no arrangements for Seaward Padilla.
