LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's governor signed an order declaring a state of emergency and invoking the state's anti-price gouging law Friday as Hurricane Ike bore down on the Texas coast.
Gov. Steve Beshear said gas stations started raising fuel prices overnight before the storm made landfall.

"Our telephone lines in the governor's office, the telephone lines in the attorney general's office have been lighting up all morning long from people all across this state who are wondering what in the world is going on when yesterday they were buying gas in some places for $3.39 and the next day they're paying $3.90 or $4.00, and it seems to be going north as we speak," Beshear said.
Beshear signed the order at the request of Attorney General Jack Conway, who said in a letter released Friday that invoking the law now will help prevent predatory pricing.
Kentucky's anti-gouging law gives the attorney general the power to investigate and prosecute anyone selling gasoline, building supplies and other goods for predatory pricing in a time of disaster.
In Madisonville in western Kentucky, The Messenger newspaper reported that cars formed lines in the streets at some gas stations, and some customers waiting line watched as the price rose from $3.62 to $3.99 at one station.
"How long is it going to be this way?" lamented Coy Vandygriff of Vandetta as he helplessly watched the price go up.
In Louisville, C.K. Baker, 55, of Louisville, paid $4.21 for fuel at a BP station Friday. Baker said he was surprised by the jump in gas prices, but he said other factors besides Hurricane Ike were likely behind the increase.
"My opinion about it is, it went up because we're having the Ryder Cup this week. I feel that they know it's a chance to make a bundle of money," Baker said.
Preparations have been going on for months in the area for The Ryder Cup, an international golf tournament that will be played Sept. 19-21 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

I am confused, personally. Now the Gulf of Mexico oil drilling has almost been shut down by the storms and oil is back up over $100.00 a barrel, the price of gasoline is down to $3.69 a gallon. When the gulf was pumping and oil was $95.00 a barrel, gasoline was up to $4.10 a gallon.
I guess people aren't educated on what causes pricing changes. They only want to blame the people selling it and the media is encouraging the ignorance.
Ok this is for the person that made the comment that he is an gas station owner and that price do go up everyday....unless you have a gas delivery everyday there is no reason at all to change your price daily. They don't invoice you daily they invoice you per shipment. And what about before the hurricane hit and gas stations changed that changed their price not once not twice but some changed three times in one day... you can not tell us and have us to believe that, that is legal and nothing justifies that sorry there are too many of us out here with brains. If everyone started taking pictures of places with high prices that change frequently and turn them in to the attorney general maybe, yeah just maybe something will be done about it. Power is in numbers and if everyone started complaining to the right people...the governer, the mayors, attorney generals of the states and cities maybe we can get something done.
It seems that all can figure out that when oil goes up that the price at the pump goes up 10 cents a whack, but if oil prices go down they only go down 1 or 2 cents at a time?? What is that if not price gouging. Even with the hurricane Ike the prices went up before the storm even hit. And yes I realize that workers were pulled of oil rigs before the storm but it should not have effected the prices that soon. I think people should report any and all changes to the attorney general and have them to check them out.
any neighborhood gas station in the area thursdat 9/11 prices about 3.70 a gallon saturday 9/13 over 4.15 agallon if that is'nt gouging what is?

over in okolona,ind.new albany,downtown,weat end
THE PRICE OF GAS WENT FROM 415 TO 495 IN JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS.
The old Truck Stop in waddy Ky has raised their
gas price to 4.14 per gallon when everyone else
is 3.99 or lower. Is this suppose to be this high
Seems to me any excuse the gas company can use they are raising prices. How did they get the best profit margin in history of their company without gouging the customer.
It IS time to intervene. There is a twenty to thirty cent difference between gas stations next to each other. Why is this being allowed to occur?
I truly believe we are being gouged!!!!! This has to be stopped! Jeffersontown area
I truly believe we are being gouged!!!!!
I haven't gotten gas in Louisville because the prices are well above what we're paying in Mt Washington. Gas here the other day was 3.89 while some east end stations were sitting at 4.19 etc. We came back home Sunday night, and gas at our stations was still 3.89-3.99, while 5 miles down the road in Shepherdsville, the gas was already 4.09.
I live in Corydon, In gas went from 3.64 to 3.99 in some stations but some stations are over 4.00 a gallon, this all happened overnight. Something has got to be done
New Cut Road in the Southend was $4.99
