RINEYVILLE, Ky. – Many questions remain open in the case of a double homicide in Hardin County. Two women were found dead in a residence after a 9-year-old boy called police to the scene.
Tracy Burke, 31, and her former mother-in-law, Karen Comer, 53, were found shot to death. Police have no suspects. They are questioning friends, neighbors and relatives, and are awaiting autopsy results, hoping to recover bullet fragments.
Police tell WHAS11 News that Burke and her three children had recently moved in with Comer. Burke’s ex-husband and current husband are both active military. Neither was in town at the time of the slayings, police say.
Comer’s husband is a truck driver, and he was also out of town when the shootings happened.
All three men have been notified of the situation.
“They spent the evening with social services, Cabinet for Families and Children, had a crisis intervention team talking to them. They spoke to our detectives some, but they didn’t want to push too much, but they’re doing good today,” said Kentucky State Trooper Steve Pavey regarding the children.
Investigators say there is no sign of forced entry in the home.
