French actress Gainsbourg doing well following operation
03:19 PM EDT on Thursday, September 6, 2007
PARIS (AP) -- Charlotte Gainsbourg was doing well after undergoing an operation Thursday for an injury she sustained while jet skiing.
Her agent, Dominique Segall, said the surgery was aimed at treating a hematoma (a mass of usually clotted blood that forms as a result of a broken blood vessel) but did not specify where she was injured.
French media reported it was a head injury.
Speaking on RTL radio, Gainsbourg’s partner, Yvan Attal, said he had spoken with the French actress after her surgery and expected her to leave the hospital in the coming days.
Attal denied reports she had suffered stroke.
Gainsbourg—the 36-year-old daughter of French crooner Serge Gainsbourg and British actress Jane Birkin—has been in dozens of films, including “21 Grams,” “Golden Door,” and “The Science of Sleep.” She has also starred in several movies by her actor-director partner, Attal, and appears in “I’m Not There,” Todd Haynes’ film about Bob Dylan that was shown this week at the Venice Film Festival.
