Louisville's mayor and Gov. Beshear travel to Ford Motor Company to discuss the future
05:19 PM EDT on Wednesday, April 2, 2008
Louisville, Ky (WHAS11) - More talk of what the future holds for Ford.
Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear traveled to Dearborn, Michigan to meet with Ford executives about the future of Ford in the commonwealth.
What happens behind closed doors in Dearborn affects lives in Louisville, Kentucky. And that’s why the city and state have offered incentives to Ford for continuing operation in the bluegrass state.
Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson says they want to go to connect, and to touch base now that Kentucky has a new Governor in Steve Beshear. Beshear says he wants to do the same thing.

For Louisville’s Ford workers - the relationship is strained.
Just last month ford announced the second shift at Louisville’s assembly plant would be cut and again 54-thousand Ford employees were offered buyouts. 302 employees at the Kentucky truck plant accepted.
Mayor Abramson says he hopes to find out from ford in the next six months what vehicle Ford will replace the explorer with and when at the Louisville assembly plant.
He says that’s his hope but he has no assurances from ford.
Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company says it sold fewer f-series trucks and explorers last month.
Ford was down 24 percent in F-Series truck sales compared to last year and 15 percent less when it comes to explorers.
