Missing, pregnant Marine's burned remains found buried

09:15 AM EST on Sunday, January 13, 2008

Burned human remains have been found in the backyard of a Marine Corporal who is accused of killing a fellow Marine who was pregnant.

Investigators found the remains buried in a fire pit at the home of Cesar Armando Laurean in North Carolina.

Police say the remains are those of 20-year-old Maria Lauterbach, who went missing last month and had previously filed a complaint accusing Laurean of rape.

The remains were under as much as one foot of ashes and dirt.

A search of Laurean’s home turned up traces of blood.

Laurean’s whereabouts are still unknown this morning, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
