Louisville sophomore placekicker John Wallace has been placed on the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Award, released Wednesday by the award's selection committee.

The Groza Award, named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, is given to the top placekicker in the nation.
Taking over as the placekicker last season, Wallace burst on the scene and was one of the top kickers in the league, earning honorable mention All-America accolades.
The native of Elizabethtown, Ky., connected on 10-of-11 field goals to start the season, with the only miss coming on a 57-yard attempt against Cincinnati.
Converting 16-of-21 field goals on the year, Wallace earned honorable mention All-America honors and finished 34th in the country in field goals made per game at 1.34.
Wallace was a perfect 13-for-13 under 40 yards, and his 16 field goals on the season were the second most in school history.
Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Monday, November 4th. From this list, a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, and former winners selects the top three finalists for the award by Monday, November 25th. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, December 12th during the Home Depot College Football Awards, broadcast live from Orlando, Fla.

The 22nd Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three finalists during an early week celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet on December 10th, prior to joining ESPN in Orlando.
