LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - Ricky Roddy of Okolona just might be the ultimate UofL fan. His home is covered from the ceiling to the floor in Cardinal memorabilia.

“It’s hours, upon hours, upon hours,” said Roddy “I’ve got thousands of hours of cutting things out and putting them in frames.”

His collection started in 1980 and grew to something he never could have imagined.

Roddy hopes retired UofL basketball coach Denny Crum will one day come see his lifelong passion.

“That would top the shrine off to have Denny Crum here,” said Roddy. “Because of him I am a UofL fan.”

Out the thousands of remembrances, his most prized gift is his son.

Ricky Roddy Jr. was born while the Cards were at half time in the Final Four on April 2, 1983.

“That’s the grace of God,” said Roddy. “Your first son being born and you get to watch the game too. That’s just faith.”

“Growing up its just normal,” said Roddy’s son, Ricky Jr. “But I’m sure somebody coming in couldn't believe how we live like this.”

It’s a life that has gotten Roddy in trouble with some jobs.

“I tell my bosses when I start, if I can’t go home when the basketball game's on, there’s no need in hiring me because I’m not going to work,” said Roddy. “I will walk out. I’ve lost 2 jobs because of it.”

One thing he will never lose is his friend, who is also named Ricky, he met 30 years ago. But his friend is a UK fan.

“I was wearing my UK, he was wearing his U of L, we argued a little bit,” said Ricky Goodman. “Ever since then we've been best friends like brothers.”

“He's my brother,” said Roddy. “Even though he is a UK fan, we've been friends for so long he's family.

Roddy’s wife says she loves the memorabilia just as much as her husband.

Roddy is so passionate about U of L, he says when he passes away he wants to be cremated and have his ashes left on UofL’s campus.
