LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Fans and the University of Louisville Women’s Basketball team came together at the KFC Yum! Center to hear how Louisville would be ranked in the NCAA Tournament.

All gathered in the arena to watching and waiting to see where the Lady Cards would play and no one seemed real excited about it.

Coach Jeff Walz and the players came into the room thinking they would likely be awarded a two-seed but they stayed positive.

"I was just hoping to make the tournament.  I mean, you know with four losses and three of them to UCONN, I figured we might be an NIT team," he said.

Coach Walz says the team clearly did not expect to be number three.

"I sense a little bit of shock, but at the same time, they understand what's in front of us now," he said.

The team and their fans want the ranking to be their motivator.

"I think they can overcome a lot.  They did last year.  And I think they can do it again this year," fan Christopher Carlsen said.

The Lady Cards plan to meet the challenges and win.

"We're just gonna go out and play.  No matter the seating, no matter who we're playing... where it's at... we're ready to go play basketball and I think our coaches are gonna get us prepared mentally and physically to go play," Junior Sara Hammond said.

The women will play their first game in Iowa City on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
