LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Cards learned against Western Kentucky there are more than one way to skin a cat. Louisville had five players in double figures but none of those had more than 14 points. The Cards beat Western Kentucky in other areas and that’s what made the final score 79-63.
You really don’t have to look any further than the paint. At one point, Western Kentucky was out-rebounding Louisville 16 to 8. The final tally ended up being 39-35, advantage UofL. The Cards also outscored the Hilltoppers 36-14 in the paint and nobody made more of a difference in the eyes of Rick Pitino than the game MVP, Chane Behanan. The Junior scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Louisville also had 19 assists on 30 made field goals. This was a very unselfish team today who got teammates open shots by moving the ball. Russ Smith led the way with 10 assists, yes, that Russ Smith. Those assists weren’t because he was trying to pad his stats. Russ was a point guard and it made the team a lot better in the process.
Eleven players got on the floor today for Louisville and ten of those players were very productive. That’s a good sign for Louisville and could be a bad sign for everybody else.
