Louisville native Monique Reid was named the BIG EAST’s Most Improved Player on Thursday.  Reid becomes the first Louisville player to earn the award.  The sophomore forward was also named to the first team All-BIG EAST team.

Reid stepped up her game in her sophomore season and leads the team in
scoring and rebounding with 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.   The
forward leads Louisville with 19.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in league play.  She currently leads the league in scoring and ranks second in rebounding.  Reid averaged just 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds a year ago. After making just four starts during the conference season last year, Reid started all 16 games and more than doubled her playing time this season.

She was 108-of-253 (42.7 percent) from the field, after taking just 28 shots in 2008-09, and has hit 99-of-124 (79.8 percent) baskets from the foul line, compared to a 12-of-22 effort last year.  Reid is just one of two sophomores named the first team All-BIG EAST team.
