LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 7/8 University of Louisville softball team split a BIG EAST doubleheader against Georgetown Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium The Cards won the first game 8-0, but fell 4-2 in the second. Louisville (43-8, 16-2 BIG EAST) and Georgetown (20-29, 9-9) will meet in the rubber game Sunday at 12 p.m. The Cardinals will honor seniors Chelsea Leonard, Jennifer Esteban, Katelyn Mann, Chrisanna Roberts, Jordan Trimble and Alicja Wolny prior to the game. 
 
Louisville 8 – Georgetown 0 (5 innings)
Senior Jordan Trimble was 2 for 2 with a double, a home run, three runs and three RBI while junior Rachel LeCoq notched her ninth shutout of the season as the Cardinals beat Georgetown 8-0.
 
The Cards jumped to an early lead when Jordan Trimble connected on a leadoff double and came around to score on Alicja Wolny’s RBI single.
 
Louisville added another run in the second when Taner Fowler led off with a double and walks to Katelyn Mann and Trimble loaded the bases for Keller who worked an 11 pitch at-bat before walking to send Fowler home.
 
The third inning brought another run as Maggie Ruckenbrod and Whitney Arion delivered back –to-back singles to start the inning. Both runners moved on Fowlers groundout. Hannah Kiyohara’s sacrifice fly brought Ruckenbrod home to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.
 
Arion’s RBI single in the fourth increased Louisville’s lead to 4-0. Trimble got the inning started with a single and walks to Wolny and Ruckenbrod loaded the bases for Arion plated Trimble.
 
Trimble’s three-run homer made the score 7-0 in the fifth. Kiyohara registered a leadoff hit and Mann reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt attempt. Trimble followed with a shot over the left field fence for her third home run of the season.
 
LeCoq (18-4) got the complete game win, allowing four hits and striking out one en route to her ninth shutout of the season. Kiyohara was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI. Wolny also had two hits in the game.
 
Megan Hyson (7-16) took the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned, on nine hits and struck out two in 4.2 innings of work.
 
In game two, Trimble was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Katelyn Mann was 3 for 3, but the Cards could not overcome a 4-2 deficit to the Hoyas.
 
Georgetown took a 2-0 lead behind Shikara Lowe’s two-run homer in the first. Samantha Giovanniello connected on a one-out double to set up Lowe’s shot over left field.
 
The Cardinals answered in the home half of the first when Trimble led off with a single and Katie Keller was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved on a wild pitch and Wolny’s sacrifice fly sent Trimble home. Whitney Arion’s sacrifice fly plated Keller to tie the score at 2-2.
 
The Hoyas regained the lead top of the third. Back-to-back singles from Taylor Henry and Elyse Graziano and a walk to Samantha Giovanniello loaded the bases for Lowe who drew a walk to put Georgetown up 3-2. Alexandria Anttila’s RBI single increased the lead to 4-2.
 
Louisville used hits from Hannah Kiyohara and Katelyn Mann and Trimble’s walk to load the bases with one out in the second, but Georgetown starter Lauren O’Leary got a flyout and a groundout to end the inning. The Cards also had runners in scoring position in the fourth and sixth, but stranded a total of nine in the game.
 
Caralisa Connell (25-4) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and struck out seven in 7.0 innings of work.
 
O’Leary (13-13) got the win, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out two in 7.0 innings.  Lowe led the Hoyas with a 2 for 3, three RBI performance at the plate.
