No. 25 Louisville Field Hockey Falls 3-1 to UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – The 25th ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell 3-1 to No. 23 Albany (5-6) Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with Albany holding a 10-2 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.
 
UAlbany (5-6)got on the board just two minutes into the second half. Daphne Voormolen sent a cross in front of the cage to find Kelly Bonner who tipped the ball behind Louisville goalkeeper Erin Conrad. The Great Danes added to the lead in the 55th minute, as Jessica Longstreth connected on a penalty corner rebound to make the score 2-0. UAlbany took a 3-0 lead at 60:25 on Voormolen’s penalty corner goal.
 
Louisville got on the scoreboard a minute later when senior Amber Thomas connected on an assist from sophomore Alyssa Voelmle. The Cards earned three penalty corners in the second half, but could not capitalize.
 
In the game, the Great Danes, outshot Louisville, 22-7, and held a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners. Conrad stopped 11 shots for Louisville while UAlbany goalkeeper Kristi Troch registered two saves.
 
Louisville (7-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) will return to Trager Stadium for two more games against ranked opponents next weekend. The Cards will face No. 5 Connecticut in a BIG EAST Conference matchup Saturday at 12 p.m. and will play host to No. 11 Iowa Sunday 1 p.m.
