JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Jordan Trimble went 2 for 3 with three runs and junior Rachel LeCoq notched her second shutout as the No. 16/17 University of Louisville softball team wrapped up the Jacksonville University Softball Tournament with a 5-0 win over Stony Brook (1-4) on Sunday.
The Cards (8-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Trimble reached on an error, took second on Kayla Soles’ groundout and came home on Hannah Kiyohara’s RBI single.
Louisville tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Trimble and Soles opened the home half of the inning with back-to-back singles and Hannah Kiyohara walked to load the bases. Esteban drew a walk to score Trimble and two outs later, Kiyohara crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Soles connected on her first home run of the season to increase the lead to 5-0 in the fifth. Trimble delivered a two-out double to set up Soles’ shot over the left field fence.
LeCoq (4-1) gave up five hits and did not issue a walk in seven innings. Soles went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run.
Jane Sallen (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits and striking out two in 4.0 innings. Jessica Combs paced the Seawolves offensively with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate.
The Cardinals will play their home opener on Feb. 22 against Kent State at 2:30 p.m.
