ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 15/16 University of Louisville softball team fell 2-0 to No. 5/8 Texas and rebounded to defeat Temple 8-0 in five innings Friday in the 2013 Citrus Classic. The Cards (13-3) will take on Longwood at 10 a.m. and Georgia Tech at 12:15 p.m. Saturday. The game against Georgia Tech will be shown live on ESPN3.
 
“Caralisa threw a great game against Texas, but we just couldn’t string the hits together to score runs against a tough Texas pitcher,” said  U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. “We our chances, especially in the top of the seventh when, we had runners in scoring position, be we just couldn’t get it done. I was glad to see we didn’t have a letdown against Temple. Rachel threw well and we came out swinging the bats.”
 
No. 5/8 Texas 2 – Louisville 0

The teams played through two scoreless innings before the Longhorns got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Taylor Thom and Kim Bruins delivered back-to-back,  two-out infield  to set up Mandy Ogle’s RBI single.
 
The Longhorns (17-1) added an unearned run in the fifth. Taylor Thom drew a two-out walk and scored when Kim Bruins reached on an error to give Texas the 2-0 lead.
 
Texas pitcher Blaire Luna had a no-hitter through 6 innings before Katie Keller connected on a two-out double for the Cards’ first hit of the day. Alicja Wolny, who had walked in her previous three plate appearances, was hit by a pitch to place the tying run on first, but Luna delivered her 13th strikeout of the game.
 
Connell (8-2) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits and striking out seven in 6.0 innings.
 
Luna (8-0) got the win, allowing one hit and striking out 13 in 7.0 innings.
 
Louisville 8 – Temple 0 (Five innings)
 
In the Cards’ second game of the day, Katie Keller was 2 for 2 with two runs and one RBI, Katelyn Mann and Alicja Wolny had two RBIs apiece while Rachel LeCoq struck out four in a five-inning 8-0 win over Temple (1-4).
 
Louisville jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Keller led off the home half of the first with a single, took second on Katelyn Mann’s sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate on a double by Alicja Wolny.  Hannah Kiyohara’s RBI single plated Wolny to make the score 2-0.
 
Louisville tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Jennifer Esteban and Keller delivered back-to-back two-out hits and Mann followed with an RBI single to score Esteban. An error sent Keller home  and Mann crossed the plate on  Taner Fowler’s base hit.
 
The Cards put up a three-spot to end the game in the fifth. Kiyohara led off with a single, Arion walked and Chrisanna Roberts was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kiyohara scored when  Keller was hit by a pitch. Mann followed with an RBI single and Wolny drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring at 8-0.
 
LeCoq (5-1) got the win, allowing four hits and striking out four in 4.0 innings. Keller was 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI. Mann was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run Kiyohara was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI and Wolny was 1 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the Cards offensively.
 
Brooklin White (0-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned and striking out two in 4.1 innings.  Temple dropped to 1-4 on the season.
