STORRS, Conn. – The No. 14 University of Louisville field hockey team fell 6-0 to No. 4 University of Connecticut on Friday evening at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The loss snaps the Cards (10-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) season-high six game win streak and marks their first conference setback. UConn improves to 11-1 (4-0 BIG EAST).
The Huskies struck early when Chloe Hunnable registered a goal just 3:55 into the contest. UConn’s Anne Jeute added to the lead less than two minutes later after Hunnable found her in the middle of the circle.
The Huskies built their lead to 3-0 at the 16:32 mark when Marie Elena Bolles notched the first of her two scores in the game. Jeute tacked on another goal with less than eight minutes in the half. UConn took the 4-0 lead into the break after outshooting the Cards 9-5 and holding a 3-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Seven minutes into the second half, Bolles notched her second goal of the game and Montana Fleming capped the scoring with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
In the game, the Huskies held a 19-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners. Louisville goalkeeper Sydney King had nine saves in the game while UConn’s Sarah Mansfield had two stops.
The Cards will travel to Providence, R.I., to face Brown on Sunday at 12 p.m.
