PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Caralisa Connell of Louisville was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time in the eighth weekly awards of the 2013 season. Junior Taner Fowler was also selected to the league’s honor roll
Connell posted a 2-0 record with a 0.48 ERA in three appearances. She allowed one run (earned) in 14.2 innings and struck out 24 batters. The junior held opposing batters to a .064 batting average with only three hits. In the final game of the series, she tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 9-0 win against Syracuse.
Fowler helped lead the Cardinals to a 2-1 BIG EAST record against Syracuse this weekend. The junior batted .444 (4 for 9) with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs. She had a home run in the 8-1 win over the Orange and two homers and five RBIs in the 9-0 victory to clinch the series. Fowler posted a 1.444 slugging percentage on the weekend.
The No. 11 Cardinals (28-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) will play host to No. 20/21 Kentucky Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
