MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Louisville men’s tennis team wrapped up a seven-match road swing with a 4-1 win over Boise State Sunday in a neutral match played at the University of Minnesota.

"I am impressed with the team’s effort today,” said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. “They felt that they let the Minnesota match out of their hands and were extremely disappointed. Like they did last weekend when they lost a very close first match, then won an impressive second match, they showed character. This type of effort and experience gives us true hope that we will grow as a team."

In the opening doubles matches, Boise State’s Patton and Sears defeated sophomore Luis Elizondo and Jeffrey Brown 8-6 on court two. But the Cards answered with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to take the first point.  The 31st ranked duo of sophomore Albert Wagner and freshman Alex Gornet defeated Boise State’s Bettles and Sereke 8-4 at No. 1, while sophomores Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri teamed to beat Tenreiro and Mitchell 8-6 at the three-spot.

In singles action, the Broncos tied the score at the top seed where No. 28 Andrew Bettles defeated Louisville’s No. 82 Stiefelmeyer 6-1, 6-3.

Gornet registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Garrett Patton at the five-spot and Elizondo beat Toby Mitchell 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 6. Sophomore Chris Simich topped Scott Sears 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 to seal the win.

The Cards (5-5) will return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to face Wright State and Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 15.
