LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – The University of Louisville women’s lacrosse team added two more victories to its total this past week and jumped back into the national rankings.
On Monday, Louisville received the No. 20 standing in the InsideLacrosse.com deBeer Media Poll after the Cardinals posted wins over Detroit and Drexel this past week. Louisville tied its best eight-game record in school history after improving to 7-1.
It also was announced that Katie Oliverio was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after tallying nine points in the week. She scored two goals and had four assists against Detroit and followed that performance with three assists against Drexel. Currently, the senior has 13 goals and 19 assists and ranks second in the BIG EAST in assists per game (2.38) and fifth in points per game (4.0).
Louisville cruised to a 19-2 win over Detroit, shutting out the Titans in the first half and limiting them to just nine shots for the game. Nine different Cardinals scored in the game, led by Nikki Boltja’s five goals. Against Drexel, which held a similar 6-1 ranking prior to the game, Louisville overcame a halftime deficit and outscored the Dragons 5-2 in the final period for a 9-8 victory.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, March 22, with their BIG EAST opener at Loyola (Md.) in Baltimore. First draw in the Ridley Athletic Complex is set for 6 p.m.
