LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Just a week away from the NCAA Indoor Championships, the University of Louisville track and field teams will send four student-athletes to a last-chance meet this weekend.
The Virginia Tech Final Qualifier, which will be held on Saturday, March 2, takes place at Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va. The meet provides athletes an opportunity to improve upon their respective season bests and improve their standing in the descending order list to earn a spot at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships from March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Louisville begins competition at noon, with the throwing events. Amashi Kendall will take part in the women’s weight throw, while Khadija Abdullah is scheduled to participate in the shot put. Kendall’s season-best 20.21m/66-3.75 is the 23rd-best mark in the country, while Abdullah’s school-record 17.06m/55-11.75 ranks as the ninth-best mark nationally.
The other two participants competing are both sprinters, Calvin Arsenault and Margret Harris.
Currently ranked at No. 40 nationally in the 60m hurdles, Arsenault is set to compete in the trials of the event at 12:10 p.m. Should he advance, the semifinals are scheduled for 1:25 p.m., and the final is at 2:30 p.m. After breaking the school record earlier in the year, he re-set it at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 7.90.
Harris, owner of the 30th-fastest 60m time at the collegiate level, is slated to compete in the trials at 12:20 p.m. The semifinals are scheduled for 1:35 p.m., and the final will be run at 2:35 p.m.
