LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The tournament seeds have been set and both Louisville and Kentucky have found out their opponents for the NCAA tournament.
Fans and even some sportscasters were surprised when the defending National Champions the Louisville Cardinals (29-5) were given a number four seed after winning 5 straight games and the American Athletic Conference in Memphis over the weekend.
The Cardinals are in the Midwest Region and will take on No. 13th-seeded Manhattan College (25-7) Thursday in Orlando, Florida. Tip off is scheduled at 9:50 p.m.
The Kentucky Wildcats (24-10), in a valiant effort, failed to clinch the SEC tournament title against Florida and was named an 8th-seed. The Cats will face 9th-seeded Kansas State (20-12) Friday in St. Louis at 9:40 p.m.
Another regional team, Eastern Kentucky (24-9), has made the tournament as a 15th-seed. They will face the number two-seeded Kansas (24-9) in the South Region in St. Louis also on Friday. Their tip off is scheduled at 4:10 p.m.
