Louisville Field Hockey will play host to No. 3 Connecticut Saturday, No. 11 Iowa Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville field hockey team will play host to a pair of ranked teams when No. 3 Connecticut and No. 11 Iowa visit Trager Stadium this weekend. The Cardinals will face UConn (12-0, 3-0) in a BIG EAST matchup Saturday at 12 p.m. and Iowa Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Louisville enters the weekend with a 7-5 record and a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Cardinals are coming off of a 3-1 loss at then-No. 23 Albany on Sunday and a 3-0 setback at top-ranked Syracuse last Saturday. Sophomore Becca Maddock leads the team with 17 points (7G, 3A), senior Amber Thomas follows with 13 points (6G, 1A).  Senior Erin Conrad (7-5) carries a 1.86 goals-against average with one shutout on the season.

Connecticut (12-0, 3-0)
Oct. 6, 2012 – Trager Stadium
Series Record: UConn leads 12-3
Last Meeting:  Nov. 4, 2011 – Then No. 4 UConn scored three unanswered goals to overcome Louisville’s 2-0 lead in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Conference Championship at Syracuse. The Huskies also defeated the Cards 4-3 on Oct. 1 in the regular season matchup.
Scouting the Huskies: At 12-0 on the season, UConn is one of only two undefeated teams in the country – top-ranked Syracuse is the other.  The Huskies are led offensively by Chloe Hunnable who also leads the league with 25 points and nine assists. Marie Elena Bolles follows closely with 24 points and leads the conference with 10 goals. Sarah Mansfield (12-0)  carries a 0.75 goals-against average with five shutouts on the season.
 
Iowa (8-2)
Oct. 7, 2012 – Trager Stadium
Series Record: Louisville leads 5-4
Last Meeting: Oct. 17, 2010 – Louisville won 4-1 at Trager Stadium
Scouting the Hawkeyes:  Iowa enters the weekend with an 8-2 record and on a six-game winning streak which includes victories over then-No. 20 Albany and No. 15 Michigan. Iowa will face Big Ten rival Indiana on Friday before making the trip to Trager Stadium for Sunday’s game.  The Hawkeyes  are led by Jessica Barnett (6G) and Kelsey Mitchell (5G, 2A) who have tallied 12 points apiece.  Kathleen McGraw (8-2) holds a 1.28 goals-against average.
 
Up Next
Following the weekend the Cardinals will return to BIG EAST play when they travel to Rutgers on Oct. 12 and then continue to No. 16 Wake Forest for a non-conference game on Oct. 14.
 
Cards in the BIG EAST
With a 1-1 record in league play, Louisville is tied for third with Providence in BIG EAST standings.  UConn (3-0) and Syracuse (3-0) are tied for first.
 
BIG EAST Championship in Louisville
The top four teams in the BIG EAST Conference will travel to Louisville for the league championship which will take place Nov. 2 and 4 at Trager Stadium.
 
Nov. 2- Semifinal #1: 5:00 p.m.

Nov. 4- Final:  1:00 p.m.
