LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – After a whirlwind week of success for the University of Louisville, the 2013 Sugar Bowl-winning football Cardinals returned to a record-breaking crowd at their annual spring game.
In the annual excitement of seeing the football team, fans passed time by waiting in long lines to see the NCAA Men’s National Championship basketball trophy on display as well as both men’s and women’s team honored.
Even with the year just getting under way, the successes feel like a wave of euphoria and confidence for fans.
“It just couldn’t get any better. We’re excited for the Cards, we don’t care what conference you put us in and we’re just hanging championships,” fan John Allen said. “It’s what we do.”
Allen brought his two boys to watch some spring football but also to spend a little time with something he hasn’t seen in 27 years.
“I was 9 when they won the ’86 title. My dad took me to all the games he could, the celebrations. We watched every game,” he said.
Allen said he grew up in the area and for the neighborhood to see what athletic director Tom Jurich and others have done has made everyone in the community proud.
Even if the event was cold, fans are still excited to see what Louisville Football brings this season.
“I can’t wait. I think it’s gonna be a great year,” fan Travis Lewis said. “I’m just excited that football is finally here.”
