LEXINGTON – The Bluegrass Sports Commission (BSC) today named Russ Smith the Most Valuable Player of the men’s basketball game between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

The Cardinals won the game by a final score of 80-77.

Smith, the first Cardinal player to receive the award, registered 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory.

"We are honored to award this trophy to Russ Smith," said BSC Executive Director Terry Johnson. “This was a fantastic game in a great rivalry and Smith gave an oustanding performance in the win tonight for Louisville.”

Smith will receive a trophy in recognition of his achievement. The award has previously been given to Kentucky players Josh Harrellson (2010) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (2011).
