Former UK player Derek Anderson met with Nerlens Noel on Wednesday night at the Wildcat Coal Lodge. The two talked for about an hour and discussed Noel's torn ACL. Anderson, who has been through his own ACL injuries, said right now Noel needs to be mentally supported. Anderson went on to say the tough times for the star are still ahead, but he's in good spirits.
Noel is facing surgery in the next two weeks followed by a long recovery. Doctors estimate it takes six to nine months.
“He might be out there shooting free throws in a few months, but the pivoting, the twisting and jumping is at least six to nine months away,” Dan Eckert, physical therapist, said.
Noel was a top prospect for the NBA draft, but Coach Calipari said his future next year depends on his rehab.
“It is a process and you can’t rush it and you cannot compare yourself to the next individual that had it done,” Eckert said.
