(WHAS11) -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear signed off on a measure to fund construction projects at six public universities on Thursday.

This means the plans for the massive $110 million renovation of Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington has the green light. The first bill passed during this legislative session.

Construction on Kentucky's Commonwealth stadium will begin this year. It is expected to be complete by Summer 2015.

The governor's move allows the schools to use their own money to pay back the bonds. Money from UK athletics will be paying for the UK sports and academic projects.
