LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A rivalry football game wouldn’t be complete without tailgating. Louisville and UK fans filled parking lots near the stadium starting around 9 a.m.

“We're usually the first ones in this parking lot since they built the stadium," said Ellen Porter.

Many spent the morning grilling out. Nick Parson smoked an entire pig.

“It’s been smoking all night with apple wood and a little bit of hickory,” said Parson.

Students started waiting outside the gates at 8:15 a.m.

“Most of the student section is general admission. So, the earlier you get here, the better seat you get," said Lucas Stoller.

No matter what color fans chose to cheer for, blue or red, everyone was excited for the start of football season.

“We're pumped! We've been waiting since about January when football season ended. This is our time now,” said Bobby Singer.
