LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky pitcher Kelsey Nunley has no problem starting, or finishing, games for the Wildcats.
The freshman right-hander has thrived as a starter, and as a reliever.
Kentucky (41-19) has a school record for victories thanks to Nunley (27-9), whose win total set another single-season mark for the program. She has compiled a 1.97 ERA with 190 strikeouts in 255.2 innings.
Nunley demonstrated her versatility to fill both roles, sometimes on the same day, during last weekend's NCAA Lexington regional.
She collected all three victories that put the Wildcats on the cusp of their first berth in the Women's College World Series. She worked 3 1/3 innings of relief in Sunday's 1-0 series-clinching victory over Virginia Tech after pitching seven innings in the opener.
