LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Churchill Downs says fans will no longer be able to bring personal tents to the track for the Kentucky Derby.

The track made the announcement Friday, saying unpredictable weather makes the items dangerous.

Tens of thousands of fans who stream into the infield every year for the race set up personal tents as they settle in for a day of partying.

Last year, fans in the infield the day before Derby for the Kentucky Oaks were evacuated when severe storms moved through.

The track says the tents, and especially the metal stakes and poles used to anchor them, pose a significant threat to people and horses in the event of stormy weather.
